🐾 Mandy’s Smokefree Journey: Longer Walks, Better Health and £500 Saved!
After smoking for around 35 years, Mandy has successfully quit with the support of Yorkshire Smokefree - and she's had a very special companion cheering her on every step of the way: her dog, Enzo!
Mandy started smoking at just 14 years old. At the time, smoking was considered trendy, and with both her parents smoking, it seemed like a normal thing to do.
Her journey towards becoming smokefree began when she was approached by the QUIT team during a hospital stay. She was referred for support and began attending Yorkshire Smokefree appointments, with her faithful four-legged friend Enzo joining her every time!
To help manage cravings, Mandy used 15mg nicotine patches, which she found really helpful.
"They definitely took the edge off," she explained. She also used ordinary chewing gum and aniseed balls to help her along the way.
Since quitting, Mandy has noticed some fantastic improvements to her health and wellbeing.
She's less breathless, can swim further and has noticed her sense of taste and smell improving. Best of all, Enzo is enjoying much longer walks now that Mandy can keep going without getting so out of breath! 🐕
Although Mandy admits that her improved sense of smell has its downsides — particularly when walking past farmers' fields or other smokers!
And the benefits don't stop there!
Since starting her quit journey on 17th June, Mandy has saved approximately £500 by not buying cigarettes!
She's been putting the money aside and has already treated herself to a new outfit for a wedding. She's even considering a long weekend abroad — something she says she can definitely afford now!
Looking back on her years of smoking, Mandy has one important message for her children: don't start smoking, because you'll regret it.
A huge congratulations to Mandy on her fantastic achievement, and a special mention to Enzo for being such a loyal supporter throughout her journey!
