Our Barnsley Smokefree team have been working in collaboration with Greenacre School to educate a group of students with learning disabilities on the effects smoking can have on someone’s lifestyle.
Adviser Neil was more than happy to take up this opportunity and has enjoyed working with the students!
The group took part in a practical session in which students worked hands on with a variety of resources. Neil brought along models of anatomy such as teeth, a tongue, heart, lungs a brain and foetus so he could fully explain how smoking can negatively impact different parts of the body. In particular the students learnt a lot from our infamous ‘Jar of Tar’, which really highlights how much tar smokers consume after smoking several cigarettes.
The session ended with a quick fire quiz where students were asked to recall information they had learnt about smoking over the course of the week - with prizes awarded to those who had picked up the most knowledge!
The students were enthusiastic and fantastic learners. We think this opportunity was a valuable learning experience for them so they can be truly aware of the consequences of smoking as well as the effects of second hand smoke.
Well done to everyone involved, we love these posters created by the group!
