I started smoking over 40 years ago when I was 13 years old, at first, I did it to fit in and look cool. Over the last few years, day-to-day I was smoking over 30 roll ups but wanted to quit to protect my health.

I reached out to Yorkshire Smokefree and received telephone support which was brilliant as it fitted in around my lifestyle. The advice I received, plus a prescription of Champix, was so helpful throughout my journey; that, teamed with the support of my family and my own willpower allowed me to quit smoking for good.

What I love about being a non-smoker is that my sense of smell has returned, I don’t have to worry about how I smell, and I can breathe easier than I have done in years!

Because of years of heavy smoking, I now have COPD and my symptoms are enough to scare anyone…

  • I have to be on an oxygen machine 24 hours a day.
  • My blood oxygen levels are really low. I desaturate and get breathless REALLY quickly.
  • I retain carbon monoxide
  • I have emphysema
  • I have asthma

This is all because of smoking!

I have massive respect for the work Yorkshire Smokefree do, I couldn’t have quit without them!
