Oscar, from Barnsley, committed to our 12 week quit programme using our telephone support service. Working with Stop Smoking Advisor Sharon, he's now proud to call himself and ex-smoker and we were thrilled when he wrote to us about his experience. Here's what he had to say...
"This journey has been very difficult at times due to my mental health, but a special lady called Sharon came into my life and after 41 years of smoking anything and everything, I’m now smoke free.
My journey started in June 2024 when I was told I had macrovascular disease of the brain. I stopped smoking with my GP surgery for 16 weeks and 4 days. Then, at a funeral, someone gave me a cigarette and off I went again smoking 30 a day.
Fast forward, I moved to Barnsley and was supported by Sharon at the Yorkshire Smokefree hub (telephone service). She was friendly, kind, and mindful with mental health, and she supported me back to vaping, never gave up and never treated me differently.
She gave me tools to stop altogether. Now I run a mile a day, I’m well and thanks to the dedication of this lady, I now have a new life, no coughs and I recently saw my granddaughter celebrate her 18th birthday. Without people like the Yorkshire Smokefree team and Sharon, I’d probably be dead. Thank goodness for your service and support, and anyone who has doubts, send them to Sharon!
