Wow! At the wonderful age of 92, Lucy’s story shows that it’s never too late to quit smoking! Congratulations Lucy on working so hard to becoming smoke free.

Please tell us approximately when you started smoking:

I was a teenager when I started smoking, maybe about 14 years old.

How many years did you smoke?

I’m now 92 and have just stopped.

Do you remember why you started smoking?

My older sister smoked, we were very close and I followed her around a lot. I was soon smoking a lot of cigarettes today.

What were your reasons for quitting?

I had a scare after being taken to hospital following difficulty breathing. It really frightened me and the Doctor said I was traumatized.

How did you access stop smoking support?

I had one-to-one appointments where an adviser came to visit me at home – from start to finish, the service I received was 10 out of 10! My adviser recommended Nicotinell patches to help with my cravings. The patches have been really helpful, I can feel them working!

What else helped you to quit and stay smoke free?

The support I received from my daughter Eva was second to none.

Has your health improved since you quit and, if so, in what ways?

Yes, I feel a lot better and I have a good appetite too now. I feel healthy enough to be able to sit and chat for hours – something I struggled to do when I was smoking.

What do you like about not smoking?

My house doesn’t smell and my grandsons no longer complain about my habit!

Do you know how much money you have saved by not smoking?

I’ve can’t believe how much money I’ve saved so far… it’s definitely more than £500!

Do you have plans to treat yourself with the money saved?

Any excuse to treat my grandkids and I also want to buy some new clothes for myself.

If you could go back in time, what would you tell your younger self?

Please don’t smoke, it is so bad for you!
