I had been considering stopping smoking for a while, fed up with listening to the wheeze in my chest, coughing, and everything else that comes along with smoking. Then came the chest pains, and a trip to A&E with a suspected heart attack was the final straw. My GP referred me to Yorkshire Smokefree Wakefield, after which Carol contacted me and made a face-to-face appointment at Airedale Library.
When I attended, I met with Carol and Clare for the first time, and they put me at ease straightaway. I was not looking forward to the battle ahead. Carol explained everything, and then the ‘cherry on the cake’ was the money reward incentive scheme for routine and manual workers—a great way to give people a goal.
I honestly believe that these girls and Yorkshire Smokefree Wakefield are not just changing lives but saving lives too, and the money incentive is genius. So, thank you, girls; I could not have done it without you.
