Mark decided it was time to stop smoking after going for a jog and finding that he couldn't run even 10 yards without struggling for breath. Wanting to improve his fitness and health, he quit smoking and started the Couch to 5K programme. Just four weeks later, he is close to completing the programme and has already noticed a huge improvement in his breathing and overall wellbeing. He's enjoyed running so much that he plans to continue with it as part of his healthier lifestyle.
Mark had tried to stop smoking before but relapsed when drinking alcohol, which he recognised as a trigger for smoking. This time, he made the decision to switch to soft drinks when socialising.
Although he had failed a few quit attempts in the past and was concerned that he might not succeed, regular carbon monoxide readings and face-to-face appointments with Julia at the Wakefield One stop smoking clinic helped keep him motivated and on track.
Mark is proud of what he has achieved and hopes his story encourages others to believe they can quit too, even if previous attempts have not been successful.
Congratulations on your quit, Mark! You've considered your triggers and made changes to your lifestyle to help make your quit that bit easier. Keep up the good work!
