Graham, from Normanton in Wakefield, returned to smoking after a Christmas party many years ago. He's finally able to now say he's smoke-free and we couldn't be more proud. Here's his story...
"My reason for wanting to quit was mainly for my health; I have severe arterial disease in my legs which means the arteries are narrow restricting blood flow to my leg muscles. I suffer with severe cramping and pain when walking. My consultant advised that I need to stop smoking.
I started smoking at the age of 15 to 30 then I managed to stop for 18 years, but, started again at the age 48. It was that cigar that was given to me at a Christmas Party. Once you take that step again it gets to you, and you are back to square one. I am 71 years old now.
Using the patches has been a great help. I was really shocked that I only needed to use the treatment for 3 weeks. I don’t think I could have quit without the products. They gave me the kick start I needed. The fortnightly meetings at Normanton with my advisor Marie helped keep me on track!
Not only has quitting saved me a great deal of money, but my health has also improved. What I have found is that my breathing is better, my wife has noticed my clothes do not smell anymore and my fingers are no longer yellow. I had to laugh though when I mentioned this to my advisor – my moustache has changed colour it is much whiter now!
With the money I have saved I am thinking of changing my car to an automatic! I have wanted one for years!"
