I have had COPD for a few years and I noticed I was getting breathless doing small tasks. I was also coughing every morning.
I felt that I needed to stop smoking for my health. I quit drinking first, and then smoking, and doing both has been very worthwhile.
I am now 12 weeks quit and can feel the benefits already. I am less breathless, not coughing anymore, and my sense of smell and taste has returned.
My partner wanted to quit as well for her own health and wellbeing. I was referred to the Wakefield stop smoking service through my GP, but we discovered that you can easily self-refer, so my partner did that.
Doing it together really helped, as there wasn’t the temptation around to fall back into it. It also felt easier overcoming certain habits (such as after meals) as we created a new routine together.
Until you’ve stopped, you don’t realise how bad you feel from smoking. We are both so pleased that we decided to quit.
