Michelle had successfully stopped smoking for three years in the past, but after a stressful period in her life, she found herself smoking again. This time, she reached a point where she knew she wanted things to change. She told her stop smoking advisor, “I was fed up of feeling unhealthy and unfit, and I wasn’t enjoying smoking anymore.”
When Michelle began her latest quit attempt, she felt 100% confident that she was ready. With support from Smokefree Sheffield, stop smoking medication and regular face-to-face appointments, she began her journey towards becoming smokefree.
Michelle says the medication was “amazing” and really helped, while attending appointments in person proved particularly important, telling us,
“Attending face-to-face has been crucial for me, and the encouragement from Sharon has helped a lot.”
Since quitting, Michelle has already noticed some big differences. She can breathe better, feels her asthma is more under control, has more money and loves no longer smelling of cigarettes or having yellow fingers. In fact, she says the smell of cigarette smoke now makes her feel sick!
Her health remains her biggest motivation, alongside saving money and simply enjoying life without cigarettes.
And Michelle has this advice for anyone thinking about stopping:
“You’ve got to be willing to give it a go and have motivation.”
Congratulations, Michelle — and thank you for sharing your story!
