Harry quit smoking with the support of our Smokefree Sheffield team. At the end of his quit we did a quick Q&A with him and here's what he told us...

Hi Harry. Can you tell us what your reasons were for wanting to stop smoking on this occasion?

I just didn’t want to smoke anymore. I just wanted to stop, I’ve had enough. I didn’t want my flat to smell of tobacco.

If you have previously tried to stop smoking before, without success, can you explain what was different for you on this occasion?

I stopped before because I couldn’t afford it. I stopped many times before, but something might go off, usually stress and then I’d start again. Coming here seeing you gave me more incentive, made me more determined.

How did you feel before your first appointment about stopping smoking compared to after your first few appointments?

Before I saw you it was going through my mind a bit. I went to the chemist to buy some Nicorette inhalators but they were too expensive. I told them I just wanted to stop smoking and this is when they advised me to come here.

Did you use any products to help you stop smoking? NRT/Vapes/Medications? Please specify which product.

Years ago I stopped, using Nicorette inhalators and I can’t remember the reason why I started again. But this time they just weren’t doing it so I bought a vape. You were concerned about it being unregulated product, so you advised me you could provide a Mirage vape. This one has been 10/10.

Did you find the products helpful? Would you recommend other wishing to stop smoking use this product? If so why?

It helps me with my stress, with my PTSD. Yes, I'd definitely recommend.

Did you have any other motivations, apart from being able to use products, to help you stop smoking?

My motivation was really high, I just wanted to stop smoking.

Now you are no longer a smoker, what are you enjoying the most about being smokefree?

I feel better for it, I’ve got more money in my pocket. I just feel cleaner. It’s a dirty habit.

Has your health improved since your quit and if so, in what ways?

I've always been fit, I worked in coal mines that kept you quite fit. I thought smoking didn’t fit that lifestyle. I feel better in myself, I feel chuffed because I’ve done something right. Having an urge to smoke and not having one makes you feel good.

What did you find helpful whilst accessing Sheffield Smokefree service?

How helpful you were. Put it this way, If I hadn’t seen you I wouldn’t have stopped. You've given me that extra kick.

Thanks for taking the time to chat with us Harry. You've do so well and we are thrilled you've managed to quit tobacco! Keep up the good work!
