Mark

Mark was quitting for his health as his COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) worsened with frequent hospital stays requiring oxygen. He was in hospital for three weeks when he came to the service for help to stop smoking for good. Mark was able to complete his carbon monoxide readings most of the time, which helped identify issues with second-hand smoke and made Mark more determined to stay on track and talk to other people about how their smoking was affecting his quality of life, his worsening COPD and potentially his own quit. Despite some setbacks, struggles, and hospital visits during his quit journey, Mark quit using nicotine replacement therapy.

As the course progressed, Mark realised how much he was spending on tobacco as he had saved a lot of money by not smoking. He revealed his goal of saving enough to buy a narrow boat he had his eye on and renovating it.

Because Mark had quit smoking, he was able to have home oxygen towards the end of the course, which has made his COPD more manageable and hospital visits less frequent
