From February 26th to March 11th, Yorkshire Smokefree have been hosting events for No Smoking Day across South and West Yorkshire.
With over 12 events spread over the 2 weeks, our teams have been in locations from supermarkets to hospitals, libraries, and colleges scattered across Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster, Calderdale and Wakefield.
We’ve been encouraging the public to make March the month they become smoke-free; starting on No Smoking Day itself! With stalls full of handy leaflets, display boards showing what is actually in a cigarette, and expert knowledge, our teams have been busy informing others how Yorkshire Smokefree can help you quit smoking for good.
The jam packed fortnight started off with a bang as our partners Sheffield Wednesday sent down Marnick Vermijl to show his support for our first event at a local British Heart Foundation store in Sheffield city centre.
Since then we’ve had some great support and successes to report. On No Smoking Day a whopping 19 people made the decision to go smoke-free in a Tesco in Rotherham by signing up on the spot to come visit our Rotherham Smokefree team in their quit shop and take the first step into stopping for good.
Our adviser Pat in Wakefield was treated with a blast from the past at her No Smoking Day event in Pontefract as she bumped into a man who she had helped cut of the habit at a stop smoking group she ran 8 YEARS ago! She was really pleased to report that he is still smoke-free.
A member of our Facebook community told us she was felt extremely proud when spotting one of our advisers on location and was able to tell him that she was already 6 months smoke-free!
We’ve had a fantastic time being able to show our faces to the public and had some wonderful chats with many future quitters.
We’d like to give a big thank you to everyone who came to talk to us over the past 2 weeks; it’s been a huge success for us.
Good luck to everyone who started their quit this March!
